I have been in Kazakhstan for the last 28 years. My journey started in 1993, when I enrolled in Almaty Medical College for my MBBS course. During that time, I and everyone else who had moved here to Kazakhstan for higher studies faced a lot of difficulties, primarily due to language barrier as everything and everyone spoke only Russian. Mastering a foreign language while at the same time studying for your professional course in a foreign language had been but very difficult. After completing my medical studies in 1999, I was invited by the Semey State Medical University to work as an Admission coordinator for foreign students. I quickly realized that the overseas students from various countries were neither interested nor willing to come to Kazakhstan for higher medical studies as previous alumni returning from Kazakhstan had faced employment issues back home due to the medium of education being in other language than English. I decided to work towards this and suggested to the university to launch the medical course in English for overseas students. Initially, the university faced tremendous difficulties as it was unable to replace or recruit an entire faculty who could teach in English. I supported and helped the university with the development of the necessary and required processes as well as facilitated the entire set up of the educational process in English. After successfully meeting the requirements of the Ministry of Health, Kazakhstan, I along with the Semey State Medical University launched the English MBBS course. As a result of this successful implementation, few selected local students were also enrolled in this course so as to facilitate their exposure in international exchange programs. My work and ideas have been appreciated and I have been awarded with many certificates and medals by the Semey State Medical University. Now at present I receive medal and certificate from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University , Embassy of Kazakhstan in India, Ministry of Culture and Sports Kazakhstan, and also from President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
